CAIRO

Cairo is the capital and largest city of Egypt and home to the Pyramids of Giza. Cairo is very energetic packed with a lot of history and culture and a city that seems to never sleep. The hustle and bustle of Cairo with the cars honking their horns all day and all night tends to grow on you. Cairo is definitely a must visit city.

The Cairo Tower is located on Gezira island in the Zamalek district. The Tower offers awesome panoramic views of Cairo, Nile River, and other landmarks. You can also see the Pyramids of Giza in the distance from the tower on a clear day.

The Nile River is the longest river in the world around 6,650 kilometers passing through 11 countries in northeastern Africa. The Nile is one of a select few rivers around the world that flows north instead of south.

Cairo Traffic is absolutely insane and chaotic with constant horn honking, motorcycles weaving in and out of traffic, pedestrians crossing the street in the middle of oncoming vehicles, people catching rides or being dropped off in the middle of the street, no car lanes in most places and all in a synchronized rhythm only Cairo can handle.

Garbage City in Manshiyat Naser is home to the city’s trash collectors who collect and recycle trash for a living. Majority of Cairo's garbage is brought to Garbage City by the Zabbaleen (garbage collectors), who then sort through the garbage looking for potential recyclable items. It's highly recommended to join a tour group or have a guide to drive you and be with you when exploring Garbage City.

The Cave Church, also known as the Church of St. Simon the Tanner is located inside Garbage City. You won't need a guide for the Cave Church but it's highly recommended to have a hired car as you will need to navigate the streets of Garbage City to reach the Cave Church.

Saint Virgin Mary's Coptic Orthodox Church also known as the Hanging Church belongs to the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria. The Hanging Church is named because it's located over the ruins of the Roman fortress.

Who built the pyramids? We'll probably never know. We can agree that it's an engineering feat around 2630 BC as the starting point.

The Grand Egyptian Museum is the largest museum in the world dedicated to a single civilization.

Citadel of Saladin also known as the Citadel of Cairo is a historic fortress and former seat of Egyptian rulers for nearly 700 years until the 19th century.

Mosque-Madrasa of Sultan Hassan dates back to the 14th century during the Bahri Mamluk period and was built to serve as a mosque and a school for teaching the four Islamic madhabs.
